Russian mobile operators say widen channels for Telegram, VK

MOSCOW, Feb 22 (PRIME) -- Russian mobile operators MegaFon, VimpelCom, working as Beeline, and T2 RTK Holding, working as Tele2, have raised the throughput capacity for Telegram connection channels and Internet company VK services to speed up content loading for the users, spokespeople for the companies told PRIME on Wednesday.

“MegaFon raised the throughput capacity in Telegram by 40% to 1,400 Gbit/s,” a company spokesperson said, adding that the messenger has remained the most popular service of instant messaging over the recent 11 months.

The spokesperson attributed the expansion to the need “to provide the subscribers with high quality of work amid rising loading in the messenger.”

VimpelCom expanded the capacity for Telegram by 400 gigabits per second in January, and the total throughput capacity of the messenger now amounts to 900 Gbit/s. The capacity for VK was boosted by the operator to more than 2 Tbit/s.

T2 RTK Holding said that the capacity for VK and social network Odnoklassniki was raised 50% in 2022 to more than 1 Tbit/s.
